Due to circumstances beyond our control, Western Arts Alliance has postponed indefinitely the China tour scheduled for this spring. The tour, to be accompanied by a small delegation of WAA members, was expected to take place in late May/early June 2016. Issues both in China and on our side, made the tour logistically and financially untenable.
We apologize to the program applicants, and to the finalists and their agents who spent many hours negotiating to an unsatisfying conclusion. In the next few days, all applicants will receive a full refund of their application fees.
While this was not the outcome we were hoping for, WAA remains committed to strengthening ties between North America and Greater China that will build trust, knowledge and exchange, creating new opportunities for WAA artists in Greater China, and offering WAA presenters access to and context for the finest tour-ready artists in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Western Arts Alliance continues to work closely with our partners in China, the Shenzhen-based promoter A C Orange and the China Association for the Performing Arts. We expect a delegation of 10-15 delegates from China at 2016 Conference in Los Angeles. We also plan to lead a small delegation of WAA members to the Shanghai Performing Arts Fair (SPAF), October 11-17 (including travel).
