Alliance of Performing Arts Conferences Convenes in Atlanta
Atlanta, GA – The Alliance of Performing Arts Conferences convened in Atlanta on February 25 and 26. The group consists of representatives from the nation’s three regional performing arts conferences, Arts Midwest, South Arts’ Performing Arts Exchange, and Western Arts Alliance, as well as the Association of Performing Arts Presenters. Representatives from the International Performing Arts for Youth conference attended for the first time.
The organizations meet annually to discuss trends in the field, and identify common areas for improvement. “It’s an opportunity for us to create better experiences for our constituents,” explains Leland McKeithan, Program Director of the Performing Arts Exchange.
One of the deepest collaborations between members of APAC was the release of a uniform performing artist showcase application through the I Want To Showcase platform; the three regional conferences coordinated to remove redundancies for performing artists applying to multiple conferences, as well as create a more user-friendly paper-free format.
“Each of our conferences is unique in size, scope, and direction,” continued McKeithan, “but we know that there is overlap in our exhibitors and processes. This annual meeting allows us to strike a balance between independence and common practices, all for the betterment of our constituent service.”
In previous years, the group was able to coordinate policies, program book advertisement sizes, and most importantly, schedules.
The conferences, which occur from September through January each year, convene performing arts professionals across the country. Each conference offers artist showcases, professional development opportunities, a marketplace of agency and industry exhibitors, and networking events.
