4:05pm Artist: Little Cow
Yonas Media
Discipline: Folk/Ethnic/World Music
Showcase Location: Stage West, Herberger Theater

Described as “Hungary’s hottest export since gulash”, gypsy-folk superstars ‘Little Cow’ blend ska, funk, indie and dance with a childlike irreverence for static style or mood. Jumping from maudlin to manic, often in the space of a single song, the band’s energetic, theatrical, and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny performances have been hailed as “riotous fun”, a “full-fledged musical onslaught”, and “rife with magic and mystery.” With a No. 1 hit in Hungary and a brand new live DVD, the band will hit the ground running for their third North American tour this fall.

4:25pm Artist: Anthony Venisse
CINARS
Discipline: Theater
Showcase Location: Stage West, Herberger Theater

The playhouse slumbers. Tinsels, feathers and props are scattered on the stage floor. In the dark, a tiny light flickers…the janitor! Clumsily, he tends to his chores in the deserted locale. A peculiar piano, enchanted shoes, a white rabbit, a symphonic toolbox surprise and delight him… and this gentle soul unknowingly transforms his daily life into poetry.

This show relies on what is universal in clown language and in music. Whether as a dancer, a trapeze artist or an unlikely pianist, Anthony Venisse, a multidisciplinary artist if there ever were, flirts with the absurd through his quirky and touching character. This tragic comedy is a one clown show about fantasy, creativity and defying boundaries.

4:45pm Artist: Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole
Eye for Talent
Discipline: Folk/Ethnic/World Music
Showcase Location: Stage West, Herberger Theater

Cedric Watson
has been making a name for himself for years, reviving the old Creole fiddling styles of Southwest Louisiana, and now he is also becoming widely recognized for his button accordion playing. He injects a healthy dose of his own personality and ingenuity into both, supported by his band, Bijou Creole. Playing a variety of old-school zydeco styles, original material and Creole traditionals, the poly-rhythmic and syncopated sounds of Africa and the Caribbean are unmistakable in this fresh ensemble. His 2008 eponymous CD was nominated for a Grammy.

5:05pm Artist: Cara
Real Good Music
Discipline: Folk/Ethnic/World Music
Showcase Location: Stage West, Herberger Theater

"A German band with an Irish name who plays Scots/Irish, European, and original tunes and ballads? This is a band whose musicianship and inventiveness will make them a favorite on both sides of the pond"...Sing Out!

"Cara" means Friend in Irish. You might not expect a German band to be a powerhouse in Celtic music. Cara, fronted by the wonderful fiddle player/vocalist Gudrun Walther and including some of the most talented musicians in any Celtic Nation, has convinced presenters, critics, and fans that they deserve to be known as one of the top Celtic bands.

5:25pm Artist: Alpin Hong
Ed Keane Associates
Discipline: Classical/Chamber Music
Showcase Location: Stage West, Herberger Theater

Award-winning. Inspiring. Not just classical, but classic. From Beethoven to "Dude, it's Beethoven"; from Paganini to musical quotes from Star Wars in the midst of a sonata, Alpin Hong plays piano with the precision and dexterity of the great classical artists. Yet, his spirit shines through - humor, intelligence, emotion, wit, a love of great artistry - classical, jazz, or film music - all combined with the heart of a teacher. In his music, you'll find his story.

5:45pm Artist: Corbian Visual Arts/Dance-DARWIN
Kids' Entertainment/CH Promotes
Discipline: Family/Young Audiences Programming
Showcase Location: Stage West, Herberger Theater

Darwin is much more than a pet: he is a dinosaur - a wild and primitive creature! Darwin is a dinosaur built by the hands of a great professor, Henslow. His dinosaur instincts lead him away from home on an emotional exploration discovering joy, fear, love, pain, and good and bad alike. Meeting vibrant characters - both friends and enemies - throughout his journey, Darwin comes to learn that life’s lessons are all up to him to discover!
