FERDINAND THE BULL
bullfighter Presented by Childsplay

Herberger Theater Center
Wednesday, September 2
7:30 pm

Sit back, Relax, and Enjoy the Show.

WAA is excited to present Childsplay, Arizona’s adult, professional theater for young audiences and families. Childsplay has been bringing original and familiar works with unique twists to the stage (and schools and libraries) since 1977. Childsplay’s mission is to create theater so strikingly original in form, content, or both, that it instills in young people an enduring awe, love, and respect for the medium, thus preserving imagination and wonder—the hallmarks of childhood—which are the keys to the future.

Join us on Wednesday night at the Herberger Theater Center for a full-length performance, just across the street from the Downtown Phoenix Sheraton Hotel! You will meet Ferdinand, an unusual bull who prefers picking flowers to joining the bullfighters in the ring, and Danilo, a young nobleman whose father Duque Dodo has big dreams for him. You’ll cheer as Danilo and Ferdinand meet in the bullring and refuse to go along with the crowd. They strike a blow for individuality and the celebration of our differences, while singing beautiful harmonies and dancing flamenco style. ¡Olé!

About Performance West: WAA's Festival Within the Conference

Each year Performance West presents an evening of full-length performance curated in partnership with presenters from the host city. The Performance West Series gives us all a chance to see extraordinary work and connect with local programmers, their audiences, and the WAA delegation. The program makes it possible to see performance you wouldn't ordinarily see at WAA or any other booking conference.

In 2007 when Performance West premiered, WAA and its Los Angeles partners brought you:
  • The Calder Quartet and Billy Childs Sextet, Presented by The Colburn School
  • The Best of the New Original Works Festival, Presented by REDCAT
  • The Kronos Quartet with special guest Wu Man, Presented by Grand Performances
And in 2008 in Seattle:
  • Bumbershoot, Seattle's own three-day Music & Arts Festival, Presented by One Reel
  • Umalali: The Garifuna Womenfs Project, Presented by Dimitriou's Jazz Alley
  • Frequently Asked Questions: Mike Daisey and Reggie Watts Explain the Meaning of Life, Presented by Town Hall Seattle & Richard Hugo House
  • LeRoy Bell, Pacificka, and Courtney Jones, Presented by The Triple Door
  • Shrek the Musical, Presented by 5th Avenue Theatre
